School Info

  • Riverside Elementary has over 700 students from kindergarten to sixth grade in the suburban community of West Jordan and operates on a traditional school schedule. The school also houses three special education support classes serving 30 students. School support services include one resource teacher, one guidance specialist, and two speech/language pathologists. Built in 1979, the school has traditionally enjoyed strong support from both its parents and surrounding neighbors.
  • Riverside offers Spanish Dual Language Immersion in 1st-6th grades. We are on the 2 teacher model, with students having an English teacher for half of the day and a Spanish teacher for the other half of the day. The Spanish teachers teach the grade curriculum in Spanish, so students learn grade content and Spanish at the same time.
  • Riverside is a team teaching school. The teachers assigned to each grade work together as a team to implement the curriculum. The students do not have in person school on Friday to facilitate this teaming. Students typically have opportunities to study with more than one teacher during a week. Many of our teachers hold special endorsements and/or Master's Degrees.
  • Riverside incorporates many district level programs into various grade levels, including Monster Math, the Geography Bee and STEM fair.
  • Our computer lab is installed with productivity software including Inspiration, Pixie , Comic Life, Imagine Learning and many others. Teachers participate in regular technology in-service. Classroom sets of iPads, and portable laptop Chromebook and MacBook computers allow whole classes to learn keyboarding and create writing projects and presentations within classrooms.
  • Through our website, all members of our staff can be contacted, and information accessed, such as the monthly lunch menu, PTA and School Community Council contact information, and the Family Center and school calendars.
  • We are pleased to have a full-time drama teacher sponsored by the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Foundation. The Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program (BTSALP) provides arts-integrated instruction to elementary students. In addition to drama, we also have students rotate into a P.E. class, STEM class and Computer class on a weekly basis.
  • Our elected School Community Council meets at least four times a year to discuss issues of concern. It conducts a fundraiser that we typically use to help families in need during the holiday season.
  • Our PTA provides great support for teachers and students. The PTA sponsors a yearly Reflections contest, birthday treats, Red Ribbon Week activities, Fun Run, field trips, Eagle Nest Store and many other student services. PTA volunteers donate many hundreds of hours of service in classrooms at Riverside throughout the year.
  • Riverside also has a Family Learning Center where parents can take English classes, check out resources to use at home, and work with technology.  We also offer a Parent & Me Preschool class for pre-school students who will be attending Riverside the following year in kindergarten.
  • A hot lunch is served each day. Our food services personnel go beyond the mark to provide appetizing and nutritious choices in each menu. A hot breakfast is also served every morning from 7:55-8:20.
  • School visitors are always welcome at Riverside. Please check in at the office for directions and information. The principal and/or assistant principal are available to meet with patrons at any given time. Identification is always required to check a student out from school.
  • Our students are given special opportunities to excel and receive recognition through our Morning News, Safety Patrol, Student Council, the Recycling Team, Soaring Singers Choir, Eagle Tickets, Kindness nominations, Leader of the Month Award, after school programs and year end Eagle Awards.
